Growth and Girlhood with the SIS Girls

Growth and Girlhood with the SIS Girls

What does girlhood mean to you girls and what role did it play in starting SIS?

It’s about having those women, your ride-or-die sistas. who hold you through every messy, beautiful moment. The ones who see your wild, your weird, your wonderful, and love you anyway. This feeling is what sparked SIS. We wanted every woman to find that kind of friendship and to create a space where you could just be. So, we created women’s circles, places to hold space for every woman to feel seen, heard, and loved like that.

Maya what’s something you’ve learnt recently - in life, love or creativity?
Something I have learned recently is that the more I slow down the more things happen. The more creative juices get flowing because I’ve allowed myself space, the more capacity I have for others and the kinder I am to myself. I have always loved the quote ‘Nature does not rush, yet everything is accomplished’ and I can relate to that a lot these days.

Eliza, where do you feel most yourself ?
It’s when I’m with the people I love, the ones who laugh at my weirdness and give me the space to be me. I feel like maybe being ‘yourself’ isn’t about finding the perfect version of you... maybe it’s about finding the people who make you forget to be anything else.

If you had to sum up your journey together dreaming up and doing SIS together in a single texture colour or scent what would it be and why?
If we had to sum up our journey dreaming up and doing SIS together in a single texture, colour, or scent, it would be orange like the sunrise, because all of our women’s circles took place at sunrise. Or maybe pink, like a hibiscus flower, because we always use that emoji, and because flowers are always expanding, contracting, and ever-changing, just like we are in our business.

What does comfort look like in your worlds for daily style?
For us comfort, looks like clothes that feel like a soft exhale, pieces that move with us, not against us. Some days that’s a cute lil dress others it’s a big baggy tee.

What’s your favourite part about each other!

Eliza - I’m so glad you asked this because we don’t often say what we love about each other enough. We rarely say “I love you” or even give hugs… we’re really like sisters in that way. Anyhooo, what I love about Maya is her ability to be 100% authentic to herself. I admire that so much. If she doesn’t want to do something, guess what? She won’t. And if you think her outfit’s not a vibe, guess what? She doesn’t care. She’s just her, and I’m obsessed with that.

Maya - My favourite thing about Eliza (is very hard to put into one sentence) is her drive and passion. I remember when I first met her I thought, holy shit that girls gonna make it big one day and I was always racking my brains as to how I could keep up with her, even just a tiny bit. She’s always one step ahead saying ‘ I have an idea’ and I don’t know where the ideas come from but they’re always things I would never even dream of and it just makes me laugh. I’d love to step inside her brain and just take a look around. Mind you, there would be a stupid song stuck on repeat in there too.
